Blue Spotted Neck-Handkerchief with Border

Price: $22.00
Item Number: HAN21B
“Spotted” handkerchiefs appear frequently through out the 18th and on into the 19th c. In run-away ads, portraits, genre art, advertisements and thefts we find handkerchiefs or neck-handkerchiefs  worn by women and men for fashion and practicality.  Neck-handkerchiefs could be made using the tie and dye method as well as resist block printing.  This particular neck-handkerchief is the latter.  This spotted handkerchief is inspired by an India cotton neck-handkerchief attributed to William Cowper one of England's most respected poets.  He is known among other things for the Olney Hymns which he wrote in collaberation with John Newton of Amazing Grace fame. This version is blue based on the variety of primary sources we have documented describing blue spotted handkerchiefs.  Measuring approximately 38 inches square, our neck-handkerchiefs are made of hand loomed cotton mul,  hand dyed and hand finished.
