Product Options

Yardage:
100% Japanese Cotton  45 inches wide

Originating in India and introduced to Europe as early as the 17th century, mulmul was described as “delicately woven cotton fabric”.  Used throughout the 18th century and growing in popularity at the end and into the 19th century, muslin was considered highly desirable for its lightness, and ease of cleaning.  This execeptionally sheer muslin is literally transparent.  The weave is identical to some fine muslins we have studied in extant clothing.   Suited for any gown where a very fine cotton muslin is required, as well as fine accessories such as caps, aprons, neckerchiefs, handkerchiefs, sleeve flounces and tuckers.  Also anything with white work or embroidery to include last quarter 18th century on into 19th century gowns as well as children’s clothing.
