100% Worsted Wool 59 inches wide

Worsted “stuff” was a term that referred to a wide variety of worsted textiles produced originally in Norwich and later in York.  These lightweight goods were characterized by their tightly twisted yarn, fineness of weave and smooth finish.  This made the wool well suited to men’s and women's garments.  The grades of stuff varied from coarse to fine and could be plain or twill woven.  Camlets were the most common of stuffs woven in stripes with a huge variety of color combinations and patterns employed.  They were woven very fine to coarse as we found in a book from York.  During our research we found cassimeres samples with the alternating twill and plain weave pattern of this wool. Our fabric is of a medium weight with a firm hand. We think the reverse looks just as good as the face! It would work well for women's petticoats, jackets, heavier gowns, bedgowns, men's jackets, breeches, coats and waistcoats as well as children’s garments
