Yardage:
50% Woolen 50% Worsted Wool 61 inches wide

Worsted Wools as well as Worsted mixed with Woolens and Silks were popular goods for a variety of uses.  Many were manufactured in the East Anglia area of England a main hub of textile manufacture prior to the Industrial Revolution. Serge was a twilled cloth with a worsted warp and woolen weft.  Many kinds and qualities were woven and used for a variety of end purposes. The practice of one color warp and a different color weft is something we have found common in a variety of worsted goods. This wool is woven with a black weft yarn and a white warm yarn giving it a slightly heathered appearance.  The black yarn is lightly brushed for a soft face. Please note that the reverse of this fabric is a lighter shade, with more of the white yarns showing. This medium weight serge would be suitable for gowns, petticoats, jackets, linings, mitts and men's lightweight jackets.  Depending on the end use it could also serve for a pair of lightweight breeches.
