BON10 - Bone Knotting Shuttle

Price: $10.00
Item Number: BON10
Knotting was a form of handwork especially popular in the 18th century and was used to make a  variety of trims used in clothing and as embellishment in needlework. Simple strings of knots or elaborate fringes could all be manufactured using a knotting shuttle. Extant shuttles during this time period typically measure 4 to 6 inches in length.  Our shuttle is made of bone and measures approximately 4 5/8 inches in length by 1 inch in width by 1/2 inch tall.  It is large enough to handle various sized yarns such as were used in the period as well as feel comfortable in the hand.  You can see a collection of portraits and extant shuttles here Shuttles
