This wonderful striped floral is a direct copy of a wood block printed French textile fragment dated 1775-1780 in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg.  Printed cotton/linens, linens and cottons were a popular choice among all social classes from mid century on.  The variety of pattern and ease of care made them highly desirable and prices could range from moderate to expensive.  This simple two color print would have been popular and not terribly expensive.  The original textile is interesting in the fact that it's register is terribly off.  Our primary research, found many patterns similar to this dating from 1750's onward. Likewise the competition between the French and English printers was fierce making for a good deal of crossover in patterns.  This medium/light cotton is well suited to Lady's Gowns, jackets, matching petticoats, pieced linings, hem bands as seen on original garments, accessories such as pieced pockets, Men's wrapping gowns as well as Children's clothing and household needs.
