Worsted “stuff” was a term that referred to a wide variety of worsted textiles produced originally in Norwich and later in York.  These lightweight goods were characterized by their tightly twisted yarn, fineness of weave and smooth finish.  This made them well suited to Men’s and Lady’s garments.  The grades of stuff varied from coarse to fine and could be plain or twill woven.  The color name for this wool is taken from a dye receipt book we studied from the 1760's.  The color very closely matches this color.  Our fabric is medium- light weight, twill woven and is well suited to Lady’s gowns, jackets and petticoats, Men’s waistcoats, summer coats and jackets, trousers, linings, aprons, mitts and other accessories as well as children’s gowns.
