100% Italian Cotton 54 inches wide

Figured muslins were very popular especially with the advent of so many textile innovations at the end of the 18th century.  Cotton yarn could be spun tightly enough to compete with India goods and fashion demanded the light and light colored textiles.  These complex or harness weaves of the dimity family are commonly  found in  books of Manchester goods from the last quarter of the 18thc and on into the 19th century.  We have found weaves such as this in Manchester books of the 80's on into the 19th century as in an Ackermann plate dated 1809 which shows an almost identical cloth described as "a fret-work striped muslin...for gowns, robes and pelisses" This sheer muslin would make a beautiful gown, petticoat, aprons and other accessories such as summer capes and mitts as well as children's clothing.
