Worsted “stuff” was a term that referred to a wide variety of worsted textiles produced originally in Norwich and later in York.  These lightweight goods were characterized by their tightly twisted yarn, fineness of weave and smooth finish.  This made them well suited to Men’s and Lady’s garments.  The grades of stuff varied from coarse to fine and could be plain,or twilled .  It could be figured with a herringbone or a striped weave such as grogram or more elaborate and complex weaves known by various names.  Our fabric is light weight, and tightly woven with a low sheen.   It  is well suited to Lady's and Men's clothing, such as petticoats, mourning gowns, men's coats and waistcoats, linings, children's clothing and accessories.  This wool will also work well for early and later 19th century clothing..
