Worsted “stuff” was a term that referred to a wide variety of worsted textiles produced originally in Norwich and later in York.  These lightweight goods were characterized by their tightly twisted yarn, fineness of weave and smooth finish.  This made them well suited to Men’s and Lady’s garments.  The grades of stuff varied from coarse to fine and could be plain or twill woven. This bluish green color was one that we came across a good deal in our research. It is interesting to note that the cassimeres being produced in the south west of England as direct competition to the stuffs of Yorkshire had a number of samples of this color being offered in the 1770’s.   Our fabric is light weight, plain woven and is well suited to Lady’s gowns and petticoats, Men’s waistcoats, summer coats,  linings, aprons, mitts and other accessories as well as children’s gowns.
