1 1/4 inch Hand Dyed Silk Ribbon - Sold by the yard

In the 18th century this ribbon was sometimes listed as “taffety” ribbon.  Made from the delicate but strong product of the silk worm it was known for its color retention, rich hues and shimmering beauty.  Ribbons survive on a variety of objects from the past, including lady’s and men’s clothing, Native American garments, pocketbooks, bags and needlework as well as home furnishings. Our ribbon is manufactured in China and dyed by hand here in the US.  Although our ribbons are washed after dying it is always good to wash them once again before using.  Cold water, gentle soap and air-drying will help to keep your ribbons looking beautiful.
